The 2 Faces villa in Novigrad is a contemporary luxury residence defined by a clear architectural gesture and a deliberate contrast of materials. The project explores the relationship between solid and transparent, massive and lightweight, creating a dynamic composition that shapes the identity of the building and its connection to the surrounding environment.
Concept and context
The concept of the villa is based on the idea of dual character — a strong, more enclosed stone volume toward the side and access façades, and a fully open, transparent façade facing the garden and swimming pool. Positioned within a quiet residential setting, the architecture achieves a balance between privacy and openness. The clearly defined horizontal roof plane and pronounced cantilever emphasize the contemporary expression of the villa, while simultaneously creating covered outdoor areas that provide solar protection and enable year-round outdoor living.
Spatial organization
The spatial organization is developed across two levels, with the main living areas located on the ground floor and private zones on the upper floor. The ground level is fully oriented toward the garden and pool, with large glazed surfaces dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. The covered terrace functions as a natural extension of the living space, forming a continuous environment for relaxation and social gatherings. The upper floor is conceived as a more intimate and tranquil zone, with panoramic openings that frame selected views and ensure controlled daylight exposure.
Materials and architectural expression
The architectural language is defined by a combination of stone cladding, smooth light-toned surfaces, and expansive glass façades. Stone introduces tactility and a reference to the local context, while clean lines and minimalist detailing highlight the contemporary character of the villa. Transparent glass railings further enhance the sense of lightness of the upper volume. The contrast between the solid stone element and the floating white roof plane creates a strong visual identity – the “two faces” of the architecture.
Relationship with the landscape
The garden and swimming pool are conceived as integral components of the architectural concept. The outdoor area is designed as a continuation of the interior living space, with carefully defined visual axes and zones of privacy. The horizontal composition of the building reinforces its connection to the ground and establishes a harmonious relationship between architecture and landscape.
