Budinščina Kindergarten is designed as a playful and safe environment where architecture becomes part of children’s everyday life – a space full of color, light, and warmth, adapted for learning through play and exploration.

Share

The Budinščina Kindergarten project is based on the idea of creating architecture that understands children. Rather than a traditional institutional building, it consists of a series of smaller volumes shaped like “little houses,” which together form a safe and stimulating environment for children’s play, stay, and development.

Architectural concept and identity

The playful volumes, painted in different colors, give each part of the building its own identity, facilitate orientation, and create a sense of belonging. The building’s mass is broken down to a smaller, human scale, creating an environment aligned with children’s spatial perception, rather than the monumental character of a typical school.

Spatial organization and interiors

Interiors are organized as bright and airy spaces, with direct visual and physical connections to the outdoors. Large glass walls allow an abundance of natural light and continuous engagement with the surrounding environment, while the interior spaces are designed in neutral tones that, in contrast with the colorful façade, create a calm yet creative atmosphere.

Outdoor spaces and educational concept

The project emphasizes open spaces and outdoor activity. Outdoor terraces, gardens, and play areas are designed as extensions of the classrooms, allowing children to move freely between indoor and outdoor spaces. This concept encourages physical activity, exploration, and interaction with nature as an integral part of the educational process. Through its materials, colors, and scale, the kindergarten communicates warmth, safety, and optimism. The architecture does not dominate its users but instead guides, supports, and protects them. Budinščina Kindergarten is more than just a place for children to stay – it is their small architectural community, designed around the needs of the youngest, conceived with equal care for space, emotion, and the future.
